(Bethel) - County Manager David P Fanslau has announced that the Board of Directors of the newly launched Sullivan County Economic Development Corporation is hosting a presentation for the press and invited guests today at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. The EDC’s Board of Directors will highlight a selection of recent initiatives built on the underlying principles that – in spite of tough economic times – “together works and Sullivan County has a bright future ahead. Elected officials and more than 40 local business, government agency and civic leaders were invited to this midday event.
“We’re very excited to see the groups that make up the Economic Development Corporation coming together and coordinating their efforts on a set of strategic initiatives that have their origins in the will of the public, which was expressed in the Countywide Community and Economic Development Charrette held here at the end of 2009,” said Jonathan Rouis, Chair of the Sullivan County Legislature who plans to welcome those attending.
The EDC’s board is comprised of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce, the Industrial Development Agency, the Partnership for Economic Development, the Sullivan County Visitors Association, the Workforce Development Board and County Government. At-large Board Members from Health Care, Tourism and Agriculture represent the County’s largest industries.
The EDC formalizes the relationship between those agencies charged with economic development and job creation within the County and is serving as the clearinghouse for implementing many of the recommendations that emerged from the Charrette.
Among the initiatives to be presented are a new website – www.CatskillsEDC.com – designed to be a “virtual portal” for all of the economic development partners, programs and data within the County; a relaunched County Revolving Loan Fund of $525,000 targeting small businesses; a signage campaign for local roads, based on the “Mountains of Opportunities” logo; and a collaboration with Coach USA/Shortline for dedicated service routes and a marketing campaign highlighting tourism sites within the County. Sullivan County Legislators, County Manager, Commissioner of Planning and Environmental Management, and the Board of Directors of the Sullivan County Economic Development Corporation will attend. There will be a media kit presented, as well as opportunities for photos of EDC marketing materials.
