Sullivan County offers Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals Training from the New York State Department of State   

(Monticello, NY) – County Manager David P. Fanslau has announced that the Sullivan County Division of Planning and Environmental Management has arranged for Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals Training from the New York State Department of State.

“On Monday, March 28th, 2011, the Division of Planning and Environmental Management is hosting 3 training sessions. Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals members can receive all 4 hours of their State Mandated training credit in one day.  Additionally, Code Enforcement Officers can receive one hour of in-service credit each for two of the sessions.  The event will be held in the Legislative Hearing Room at the Government Center in Monticello,” said Fanslau.

4 - 5 pm Waterfront Revitalization—At this workshop, staff will discuss how completing an LWRP(Local Waterfront Revitalization Program) can increase a community’s ability to attract appropriate development and how presenting a unified vision for the waterfront increases a community’s chances to obtain public and private funding for waterfront projects.
(this session will be lead by a coastal resource specialist)

5 - 6:30 pm Site Plan Review—This course is an overview of the statutory authority local governments have to review site plans. It will address the scope and content of a site plan and the role of the site plan in municipal review of development projects.
(Trainers: Patricia Burke and Christopher Eastman, land use training specialists)
Code Enforcement Officers will receive 1 hour of In-Service Credit.

6:30 - 7 pm Break

7 - 8:30 pm Special Use Permits—Some uses require additional review and should be granted permission only if the application meets certain conditions. Scenarios in which the special use permit tool is most helpful will be discussed, along with rules local boards must follow for reviewing and approving applications for special use permits.

Code Enforcement Officers will receive 1 hour of In-Service Credit.
