(Monticello, NY - 3:15 PM) – Sullivan County Legislature Jonathan F. Rouis issued the following statement. “I have created an ethics review committee that will be tasked with the responsibility of reviewing the County’s current Ethics Code and comparing it with current New York State Law, and making recommendations for amending and/or rewriting said Code.
I am pleased to announce that retired New York State Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Anthony T. Kane, has agreed to serve on this committee as the Chairman, along with Rock Hill resident, Mr. John Konefal, a retired detective with the New York City Police Department, and Lynda G. Levine, Director of the Human Resources Department, to serve as the County’s representative. Also, I have invited the Honorable Burton Ledina, retired Sullivan County Court Judge and Surrogate to also serve on this committee.
The Sullivan County Code of Ethics is a Local Law that was adopted in 1998, and it has not been amended since its adoption. The New York State Legislature overhauled the State’s Code of Ethics last year. It is prudent to compare the County’s Code of Ethics with current New York State Law. I expect that the ethics review committee will make recommendations for amending and/or rewriting Sullivan County’s Code of Ethics prior to the end of this year for action by the County Legislature,” said Rouis.
