Latch-On in the Garden Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

(Liberty, NY) - Breastfeeding moms and their babies are invited to come to the “Latch-On in the Garden” to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week 2016. This free event is sponsored by Catskill Regional Medical Center, Sullivan County Public Health Services and the Sullivan County Breastfeeding Coalition. The event will be held at the Woodland Wildlings Garden located behind Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris at 10 am on Thursday, August 11, 2016.

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) has been celebrated since 1992 and is the biggest social mobilization platform for breastfeeding. Participation has grown steadily and WBW is now celebrated in over 170 countries by more than 1.5 million individuals, with a reach of up to 30 million through mainstream and social media.

This event will bring together breastfeeding families and breastfeeding supportive healthcare providers in the county to recognize and honor their efforts to provide the best possible nutrition for infants. There will be gifts for breastfeeding moms, and refreshments will be served.

The Sullivan County Breastfeeding Coalition is a collaborative effort between Sullivan County Public Health Services including the WIC, Healthy Families and Rural Health Network programs, Maternal-Infant Services Network, Catskill Regional Medical Center, and other local non-profit agencies and individuals. Monthly meetings are open to anyone interested in helping to promote and support breastfeeding in Sullivan County. Free breastfeeding support meetings are held at Catskill Regional Medical Center for breastfeeding moms and their babies twice a month. Additional monthly mother’s circles are held at the Monticello and Grahamsville libraries.
