(Wurtsboro, NY) – Sullivan County Manager David P. Fanslau has announced that the Sullivan County Department of Parks, Recreation & Beautification has arranged for a public D & H Canal Collections Day that will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 in Wurtsboro.
“On Saturday, March 26, 2011, the Department of Parks, Recreation & Beautification is inviting the public to bring any D & H Canal related items and ephemera to be evaluated for its potential future museum use. Representatives from Sullivan County Parks & Recreation, the New York State Historical Association and the Cooperstown Graduate Program will be available to meet with people who own D & H Canal related history. The event will be held at the 73 Sullivan Street building in Wurtsboro, NY, from 10am – 2pm on Saturday,” said Fanslau.
Sullivan County is anticipating the opening of its new museum and interpretive center at the Bova Rd. site this summer, and would like to evaluate any potential museum quality artifacts for upcoming exhibits. Artifacts relating to the Summitville and Phillipsport portion of the canal are of particular interest. Items may be brought in person or by photograph during the four (4) hour public event.
