Agriculture represents one of the largest economic sectors in Sullivan County. In 2012, agricultural industries, including agricultural production, support services, and manufacturing, directly contributed $741.1 million in sales and nearly 1,500 jobs in the County. Our agricultural operations supply the New York Metropolitan Area with eggs, milk, meats and other specialty farm products.
In addition to the direct economic benefit that farms create, our agricultural producers provide us with fresh local foods, support other local businesses across many sectors, and preserve the rural character that our residents and visitors value so highly. Sullivan County strongly supports our agricultural industry, and we seek to help our producers diversify, expand and increase their viability at the local and regional levels. The County adopted an update to its Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan in December of 2014 and has established a task force to oversee implementation. You can access the plan documents through the links below.
