What is Health Education? Health education promotes choices
that improve health and prevent disease, disability and premature death. The purpose of health education is to
positively influence the health behavior of individuals and communities as well as the living and working conditions
that influence their health. What does a Public Health Educator do?
Offers community presentations on health related topics Improves community awareness of public health issues by providing health
education and information programs to SullivanCounty residents. Supports public health programs
through public outreach and education, media coverage, and education of health and human services providers. Collaborates with community organizations to improve the health of county
residents
Sullivan County Public Health Services
provides health education, information and presentations on a variety of topics, including but not limited to:
- Childhood immunizations
- Childhood lead prevention
- Childhood obesity prevention
- Community Wellness Initiatives
- General nutrition information
- Injury prevention
- Lyme disease prevention
- Rabies & prevention of animal bites
- Smoking Cessation (including free nicotine replacement patches and gum)
- Help Someone Stop Smoking Today
