Public Health Education and Wellness
Welcome to the Health Education Department of Sullivan County! We are dedicated to promoting health, preventing disease, and enhancing the well-being of our community. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities to make informed decisions that lead to healthier lifestyles and a higher quality of life.
Education is a powerful tool for improving health outcomes, and by providing comprehensive health education we aim to positively influence health behaviors of individuals and communities alike. We are committed to providing reliable health information, resources, and support people of all ages and backgrounds.
In collaboration with Sullivan County's Rural Health Network, we work closely with schools, businesses, hospitals, and other community organizations in order to foster sustainable partnerships that help us improve the overall health of our county.
Please call our Public Health Education Center at (845) 292-5910 ext. 2210 or ext. 2214 for any health education needs!
Rural Health Network
The Rural Health Network of Sullivan County is a collaborative effort between community partners to streamline information and services to the people we all serve. The goals of the RHN include:
- Prevention and reduction of chronic disease and associated health disparities
- Improving nutrition and increasing access to healthy food by partnering with local farmers markets
- Promote mental health and prevent substance abuse, particularly in regard to the abuse of prescription drugs
- Providing community education, outreach events, and raising awareness
One of the ongoing projects of the RHN is to create recycled, self-watering plant pots to teach children and people of all ages about the science of capillary action and how to turn ordinary household items into useful and sustainable tools!
See the PDF below for instructions on how to make your own at home, or call (845) 292-5910 ext. 2214 for more information!
